The main reasons why I'm vegetarian are:
-Animal abuse: Cows, chickens, porks, turkeys, etc, are all brutaly mutilated or abused while waiting for their death. They take off Cow's horns without anesthesia. Chicken's beaks are cutted without anesthesia, porks are castrated without anesthesia. It's horrible to watch how these animals are mistreated so we can eat.
-I don't find pleaseant to eat corpses: Meat is... dead bodys. No, that's not nice. It's just blood, muscles and tendons, all from a dead animal.
-Health: Meat is not good for my body. Yeah, I know, my mom says I HAVE to eat meat, so my grandma says, and my entire family thinks the same. But the truth is that I do not need meat to survive. I've been told that I need protein to live, but let me tell you that meat isn't the only source. You can replace it for much healthier foods. Non-meateaters are healthier, and have less probabilities to suffer heart diseases, cancer, osteoporosis and high-blood-pressure, among others.
-Enviroment: You think that cars are responsable of polution? Or chimneys are responsable of global warming?. Well, the truth is that meat factory is one of the greatest contrubutors to global warming. It produces almost 20% of world's polution. TWENTY PERCENT. 1/5. That's A LOT. More than cars, more that any other factory. Also, in this world, we spend more food on animals (that will be murdered) than in people. So yes. Eating meet is not "green".
In conclusion: I'm not trying to convince anyone to go vegetarian, I know that some people don't believe in everything that I've said. I'm just explaining one of the most shocking things that I've seen. I thing animals deserve better. I think that we can do better.
I hope that someday humans don't have to annihilate or destroy other species to "eat".
It's been hard. I've been called crazy, stupid, naive. In my own family were extremely unhappy with my decision, they don't understand what I'm fighting for. But everyday I feel better and better, and I don't longer feel self-concious about what I'm eating.
I can say that I'm cruelty- free.
Ps. This is the speach that changed everything for me. It helped me take the decision.
